Finnair launches new Corporate Responsibility web pages

(Warsaw 27.1.2011) Finnair has launched brand new Corporate Responsibility web pages. The new pages show in a fresh and a creative way how an airline can be a responsible actor in society and what actions and decisions a passenger can take to travel responsibly and reduce travel-related emissions.

"Finnair wants to be the first choice for quality- and environmentally-conscious travelers,” says Kati Ihamäki, Vice President Sustainable Development at Finnair. "Airlines maintain a highly visible role in society, so we need to lead the way in terms of responsibility."

Finnair is working determinedly to reduce its carbon footprint and emissions. From 1999-2009 Finnair cut its carbon dioxide emissions per seat by 22 per cent. The aim is reduce emissions between 2009 and 2017 by 24 per cent. Total emissions per seat will be reduced by 41 per cent for the period from 1999 to 2017.

Finnair flies one of the most modern fleets in the world. The average age of Finnair’s aircraft is less than 7 years and under 4 for the long-haul fleet. Finnair also flies the shortest routes between Asia and Europe via Helsinki, which means that fuel consumption and kilometers traveled in the air as well as emissions resulting from travel are as low as possible.

“Shorter distances often mean also savings in time, which is important to many of our customers”, says Juhani Nuoramo, Finnair's Sales Director for Poland. “From Warsaw we can offer the fastest route to Hong Kong, Shanghai, Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya and Seoul and as of  March 27th we will fly daily to Helsinki also from Gdansk”, Nuoramo continues.
