Finnair introduces mobile boarding pass at Warsaw airport

(Warsaw 08.03.2010) When passengers check in online to Finnair scheduled flights departing from Warsaw, they can now send the check-in confirmation as a text message to their own mobile phone. The SMS includes a link to a mobile boarding pass.

The mobile boarding pass can also be used when boarding Finnair and Finncomm Airlines domestic and international scheduled flights departing from Finland, as well as for scheduled international flights departing from Amsterdam, Brussels, Copenhagen, Gothenburg, London, Madrid, Manchester, Oslo, Paris, Prague, Riga, Stockholm and Vilnius – also when the journey includes a connecting scheduled flight with Finnair or Finncomm Airlines from Helsinki.

”We are pleased to be able to further speed up the check-in and boarding procedures of our Polish passengers at the Warsaw airport, particularly when mobile access to internet is increasing in popularity”, says Juhani Nuoramo, Finnair's Sales Director for Poland. “We believe a mobile boarding pass will be particularly helpful to busy business travelers with carry-on baggage only”, Mr. Nuoramo continues.

The SMS confirmation message includes a link to a mobile boarding pass. On departure, the mobile boarding pass is shown to the authorities. The mobile boarding pass can be opened through a link included in the message. For this the phone has to be equipped with a functioning Internet connection. Operators will charge the customer for opening the mobile boarding pass according to the customer’s Internet data package.

If the customer is unable to open the link, he or she is advised to pick up a paper boarding pass from the check-in desk. In Finland and Sweden the passenger only needs to show the SMS confirmation message at airport service points.

At the airport the customer can go straight to the security control if travelling with only carry-on baggage. If the passenger needs a paper boarding pass, it can be picked up at the check-in desk, where checked baggage also can be dropped off within normal check-in times.

The text message check-in service for Finnair Plus members is also extended to include Warsaw. Finnair Plus members can easily check in by replying to a check-in message sent by Finnair, after which they receive a confirmation message to their mobile phone.
