Finnair named Best European Airline at TTG Travel Awards

(Warsaw 16.10.2013) Finnair has been named Best European Airline at the 24th annual TTG Travel Awards, a prestigious yearly occasion in the Asia-Pacific travel industry that recognises exemplary organisations that raise the bar of excellence in travel and tourism in the region.

Punctuality, service quality and hassle-free transfers were all factors in favour of Finnair being given the honour by readers of the publications TTG Asia, TTG China, TTG India, TTGmice, TTG-BTmice China and TTG Asia Luxury.

“We are extremely heartened by this recognition, and very grateful to receive this award,” said Finnair Chief Commercial Officer Allister Paterson.  “This year we are in the midst of a series of upgrades to the customer experience, and it’s gratifying to see efforts already start to pay off as we seek ways to make the experience of flying to Europe from Asia even better.”

Finnair is specialised in traffic between Asia and Europe, serving 13 cities in Asia and more than 60 European destinations via an ultra-efficient hub in Helsinki. The only carrier in Northern Europe with a 4-star Skytrax rating, Finnair also routinely ranks in the top tier of global punctuality surveys. As the airline approaches its 90th birthday on November 1, it is also in the midst of an upgrade drive across the customer experience, from lounge service and food to cabin interiors and seats.

These upgrades include the Marimekko for Finnair collection of pillows, blankets, headrest covers, napkins and tableware, which is now standard in all Finnair aircraft, both long haul and short haul. Finnair also recently announced new Signature Meals in Business Class created by top Finnish chefs Tomi Björck and Pekka Terävä, and has begun the retrofit of a further eight long-haul aircraft to provide seats that convert to fully-flat beds in Business Class, for optimum comfort in long-haul travel. By the time the retrofit is complete in September 2014, all but three of Finnair’s long-haul aircraft will be outfitted with the full-flat seats. The remaining aircraft are set to be retired from the fleet with the arrival of Airbus A350s in 2015.
