Finnair increases capacity to Lapland for winter 2017

(Warsaw 24.5.2017) Due to the continued increase in demand for Lapland as a tourist destination, Finnair is growing its capacity to several Lapland airports for the winter 2017 season. In total the airline will offer 430 000 seats to Lapland during November-April, adding approximately 57 000 seats compared to the previous 2016 winter season.

Between January 1 and March 24, Finnair will add four weekly frequencies to Rovaniemi operating on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, operating the route up to five times daily from Helsinki. Kuusamo will see a 21% seat capacity growth with three additional weekly frequencies operating on Mondays, Saturdays and Sundays. These flights will be operated mostly with E90 aircraft.

In addition, the daily triangle flight which was operated between Helsinki, Ivalo and Kittilä in the afternoon during the last winter season, will now be operated as non-stop flights on both Helsinki-Ivalo and Helsinki-Kittilä routes. The flights will be operated with a mix of Airbus aircraft.

"Finnish Lapland attracts hundreds of thousands of international tourists every year and the interest continues to grow steadily", says Arunas Skuja, General Manager for the Baltic States and ECE countries. "We are pleased to note that this growing interest applies also to Poland. During the last winter season the number of Polish passengers flying with Finnair to airports in Lapland increased by more than 35%, Rovaniemi and Kittilä being the most popular destinations."

Lapland is best known for offering a range of winter activities from ice fishing, sighting of Northern Lights and skiing to husky safaris and reindeer sleigh rides. Finnair is the leading airline flying to Lapland and connects travellers via Helsinki to five Lapland airports with several weekly connections, and timetables designed to support smooth connections from Europe, Asia and North America.

Finnair flies from Warsaw to Helsinki twice daily, from Gdansk daily and from Krakow up to five times a week.
