Finnair's traffic from Poland up by 36 % during first four months of 2011

(Warsaw 2.6.2011) From January through April 2011, Finnair's traffic from Poland grew by 36 % compared to the same period in 2010. The growth was particularly strong in traffic to Finnair's Asian destinations which grew by almost 45 %. At the same time the number of business class passengers grew by over 117 %. Revenues from the Polish traffic grew by 50 % compared to January-April of 2010.

“Finnair is strengthening its position on the market as a preferred carrier to Asia”, said Juhani Nuoramo, Finnair's Sales Director for Poland and Central Eastern Europe. “While the overall traffic from Poland to our Asian destinations grew in the period by 45 %, for business class travel the corresponding increase was an impressive 156 %”, Nuoramo continued.

All in all Finnair's business class travel from Poland increased by over 117 %. Revenues from Finnair's Polish traffic grew by 50 % from the corresponding period in 2010.

Looking at individual destinations, particularly Bangkok, Seoul, Hong Kong and Shanghai increased their popularity.

“Our seasonal two daily flights from Helsinki to Bangkok were well received by Polish travellers and our Bangkok traffic grew from an already solid base by 276 %”, Nuoramo said. “Meanwhile our traffic to Seoul grew by 191 % and to Hong Kong and Shanghai by 80 % and 55 %, respectively.”

On March 28 Finnair launched daily flights from Gdansk to Helsinki in cooperation with Finncomm Airlines, making its Asian destinations more conveniently accessible also from the North of Poland. “Ticket sales on the Gdansk-Helsinki route have started well and it is interesting to see that  close to 70 % of Finnair's Gdansk passengers continued from Helsinki to one of our Asian destinations.”

Nuoramo expects the Asian traffic to benefit further from the new daily Singapore route that was opened on May 30th. “Besides offering a fast connection, with our comprehensive partner network Polish passengers can conveniently continue from Singapore to Australia, Malaysia and Indonesia, for example, with the potential for great holiday trips to these and other countries.”

Finnair currently flies to Helsinki three times a day from Warsaw, daily from Gdansk and from Krakow twice a week between end March and October.
