A world class entertainment system and Wi-Fi on Finnair's Airbus A350

(Warsaw 22.2.2016) Finnair's Airbus A350 XWB's state of the art Nordic Sky entertainment system and Wi-Fi keep passengers better connected and more entertained during their journey. With the opening of a Makia clothing shop on the Nordic Sky Wi-Fi portal, the service includes a totally new onboard shopping experience.

The onboard Nordic Sky Wi-Fi portal is available to all passengers with their own devices free of charge in both travelling classes. Through the portal, passengers have access to finnair.com, news services and Finnair services such as destination information, customer care and pre-order onboard shopping. Passenger can also use it to order taxi via Cabforce Taxi Service to the destination airport and book destination services (e.g. trips, dinner cruises, concert tickets) with Viator Destination Services.

Makia, a Helsinki based clothing company founded in 2001, specializes in classical, durable clothing for men and women. During the flights Makia Spring/Summer 2016 collection is directly accessible, without any additional fees, with any handheld device or laptop connected to Nordic Sky Wi-Fi portal.

“Our cooperation with Makia is an example of the future of onboard shopping. Our acclaimed Nordic Sky Wi-Fi portal offers a unique way to our customers to shop Makia clothes while on board our A350 aircraft. We're happy to introduce a top Finnish brand to our international customers: Makia's fresh and timeless clothing design suits well to Finnair brand identity”, says Jarkko Konttinen, Vice President, Product.

Full internet access can be purchased by passengers with their own device via the Wi-Fi portal or by using an internet voucher code. Full access is free in Business class and for Finnair Plus Gold and Platinum members and oneworld Sapphire and Emerald members. In Economy class it costs 5 euros for 1 hour, or 15 euros for the entire flight.

The Nordic Sky entertainment system is displayed on touch screens of 16 inch in Business class and 11 inch in Economy class. Its unique flight program shows the main stages of the flight, guiding passengers from departure throughout all stages of their journey, informing them in advance when meals will be served, when rest lighting will be activated and when passengers can make purchases from the in-flight shopping service. This enables passengers to manage their time on-board effectively.

Finnair has also increased its content offering so passengers can watch even more Hollywood blockbusters and classic movies, or follow unique branded channels including the best programmes from the BBC, the National Geographic Channel and the Discovery Channel. The Peace of Mind Channel eases passengers into a calm and relaxing flight. Music playlists have been created exclusively for Finnair by MixRadio, the global music streaming service.

The highly sophisticated entertainment system is easy to use and navigate due to its functional design and simplicity and it is a central part of the cabin's interior design. The display screen's ambient mood lighting works in harmony with the award winning cabin lighting for a cohesive lighting experience, by gradually adjusting according to the time of day to create appropriately dimmer lighting during sleep and rest times.

Finnair offers Wi-Fi on board its A350 aircraft, and currently has three Airbus A350 aircraft in operation. Finnair will also install Wi-Fi to the rest of its Airbus fleet, with installations starting in 2016.
